Controlling new pages

Using Tiki 12.2 with groups, structure and categories, all with wiki pages. We want to restrict new pages to the category and/or structure of the user department.

How can we control where new pages show up in the Structure or Category automatically?

We want them to be restricted to the user's group category. Is this possible?

Hi Mary,

you can autocategorise pages in structures, which is a setting in Admin -> Wiki -> Structures

In an existing wikistructure you can add/create pages directly into the structure.

You can use a structure menu - apply a structure Id instead of a menu Id to the menu  module. Then you get a module, which autoupdates new pages after ech "empty cache" - it is quite "semi-automagic".

So given you are logged in with edit permission (group/category perms) and view your groups structure, you add a new page directly in the structure, then clear cache and then ou have the page in the menu.

Sometimes you need to resort the page to another place in the menu / structure - for that you have a very easy to use drill down menwhere you sort everything with simple drag and drop.

Hi Mary,

two more points:

1.) the "place" where a new page appears in the structure semi-automatically is related to the place wher you create the page - on which page in the structure and thus where in the structure you are when you add the new page by using the ceation field on top of a structured wikipage.

Important and helpful here is the tick box "create as subpage".

Anyway, usually you have to do some finetuning with the drilldown structure men from time to time to resort the new pages to their final places.

2.) you do not autocategorise to certains groups categories - this is not the concept Tiki works and thus not for suctures aswell.

You categorise objects (here wiki pages) and apply permissions FOR grous TO categories, meaning group X has these permissions and group Y has those permissions in a certain category (whilst category permissions in categories is optional).

So if the pages in wiki structure A are categorised with category P (used for permissions) and group X has permissions p in category P, then all members of the group X have permissions p in structure A.

I hope that helps,

Torsten

In addition to Torsten's info, there's also 2 very easy ways to require new pages be of a specific categor. You can also:

  • Use the  Force and Limit Categorization... option to require users to select a specific category (or from a subest of categories) when creating a new wiki page. Please see the docs for details.
  • Use the categId option on the Quick Edit Module to force all newly created pages to be assigned to a specific category. Please see the docs for details.
