In the 2009 report, the authors stated that Tiki faces "...significant challenges in terms of brand strength and market share." The report went on say that "...it seems clear that if steps are not taken to stop the slide in interest levels and boost use, then the project faces significant challenges

Tiki Wiki CMS Groupware: Celebrating eight years of continuous development

Rick -

This month marks the 8-year anniversary of the release of (what is now called) Tiki Wiki CMS Groupware. Since the initial release in October 2002, Tiki has grown from a wiki solution into a full-featured, web-based, content management solution.

To date, more than 200 people have contributed to the Tiki code-base, with hundreds more to other parts of the project (documentation, support, etc) making Tiki one of the largest open source projects in the world. With new code commits averaging every two hours, Tiki is in a continuous development cycle and its "wiki way" development process means that the community is very dynamic and agile.

Gatherings of Tiki Community members take place across the globe. These "TikiFests" are a chance for community members to plan, discuss, and code Tiki features (and socialize!). More than 50 events have occurred, with many more planned in the upcoming months.

Recent partnerships with Kaltura and BigBlueButton for collaborative videos and web conferencing, respectively, ensure that Tiki continues to move forward. The upcoming Tiki 6 release introduces a host of new features and enhancements.

Happy Birthday Tiki!

Tiki Now Listed in Windows Web App Gallery

Rick -

Tiki Wiki CMS Groupware is now included in the Windows Web App Gallery and can be installed with the Microsoft Web Platform Installer. Inclusion in the gallery means that millions of Windows users now have easier access to Tiki. Tiki was downloaded over 300 times from the gallery in the first 2 days.

This achievement is the result of work by several Tiki Community members including Philippe Cloutier, Marc Laporte, and Pascal St-Jean, as well as assistance from Microsoft. Work initially began on this project during TikiFest Confoo2010 with Wade Hilmo from Microsoft.

Tiki Receives Best of Open Source Software Applications Award

Rick -

Tiki Wiki CMS Groupware has been awarded a 2010 Bossie award (Best of Open Source Software) by InfoWorld, in the Applications category. InfoWorld's Best of Open Source Software Awards (aka the Bossies) is chosen annually by Test Center editors and reviewers, and recognize the best open source software for business users.

The editors called Tiki "a powerful, integrated, Web-based application" that can "build and maintain websites, wikis, groupware, CMSes, forums, blogs, and bug trackers, as well as make them multilingual."

(Please note that the original slideshow linked from the image above is not available anymore. See this WebArchive link instead.)

The review continues, citing Tiki's "fine-grained role-based privilege system" as a differentiating factor against classic wiki models, such as MediaWiki. Read the full article on InfoWorld.com.

Alternatively you can read this article in German language (including the original slide show).

And don't forget to nominate Tiki for the Packt 2010 Open Source Awards!
