    Is there a way to assign permissions to catagories so that any pages/forums/docs/wiki's that have been assigned a catagory for a certain group can only be viewed by that group?

    Yes, it's a feature in Tiki 1.9.0 (noit in previous). Search for information here at tw.o. on howto use it (not used it myself yet)
