OK, I'm ready to start internationlizing my 1.9 TIKI. I've heavily customized most of the text, so I realize I'm going to need to update many of the default translation libraries. I'm seeking some advice on how best to:

1. When I run get_strings, how do I avoid picking up all the text from TPL and PHP files for items that I have not activated in my TIKI? I posted this previously, but surely there's got to be a way? I don't want to scare my translators by presenting them with 100s of extra lines that they don't really need to translate.
2. Each time I run get_strings it overrides all the changes I've made to the new_language.php file (such as translations I've added, and lines I've commented out). Is get_strings intended to be run only once?
3. Is any of this documented anywhere? I've searched in doc.tikiwiki.org and found nothing.
