Using the Menu and Configurations

Hi,

The main "Menu" shown on the left side has folders inside it (consisting of subdirectories) — partly to save "space" in the layout presentation. Is there a way to collapse it further, so that the entire main Menu would appear like the "drop down" Search module (top right)? That is, without "destroying" the sub-folders (and their sub-directories) in the main Menu?

Also, how do you make the drop down options, just like the choices in the Search module (top right)? I guess, the main clarifications for these are: What is the difference between "section" vs "sorted section"? (I did not see any noticeable difference.) What does "separator" do? What should be the choice so we can create the "drop down" menu?

I already got the function of "option" — chosen to place some subdirectory inside a section, for example.

Thanks.

Hi Sylvie and other the forum participants,

And what exactly should be done there? I have "Modules decides" for "Users can Shade Modules". With this option, except for "Admins" and "Editors" — anonymous and registered users cannot rearrange the assigned modules.

But, that was not what I was asking, actually. If you go back to the original post.

I tried the choices. I did not see any difference between "section" vs. "sorted section". The "separator" seems to make the link disappear. Only the "option" works — when chosen, it places the link inside the "folder". That is OK, but I am not creating a "folder". I already know how to do that.

What I wish is to create is a "form menu" format. OK, let me rephrase it. How do I convert a "open-close" folder into a "form menu" like the Search menu, shown on the right? Also, as I stated above, I want to create a super section inside the main "Menu" module shown on the left, so that the folders currenly shown there will be kept inside a "super folder". The analogy would be more like links -> folders -> file cabinet. Am I making myself clear? Anyone, please?

"Users can shade" will creates a buttom to fold all the menu options to save space. You can see that on this site (click on the rectangle on the menu title bar. The menu will be reduced to their minimum - no more section, option displayed - only the title

Perhaps you can use the phplayers menu. It offers horizontal/vertical menus ..
http://phplayersmenu.sourceforge.net/
To use them, activate the feature phplayers in admin->features.
Then create a user module (admin->modules) that uses the menu you created in admin->menu and the phplayers function.
With some tricks, you can also use the phplayer menu with a menu file and not the tikiwiki database menu.
Good luck

Thanks Sylvie,

I finally got it, and the best clue is the "square". It turned out the choice should be "Always" for "Users can Share Modules".

I have not tried the phplayers menu yet, even if I know the menu creation and insertion of the resulting modules. That was how I created my Demo site customized modules.

The thing that I do not fully understand in this case are the choices: "section" vs "sorted section" (I did not see any). What does the "separator" option do? The thing that was clear is mainly the "option" choice.

Which one would make a drop-down form?

A section is an option that can fold the following options. The options depending of a section are defined as the list of consecutive options with type 'option'. The section options stop when the next option is a section or a sorted section or a separator.
A sorted section sorts all his options when displayed.
A separator does nothing - except to stop a section (usefull if you want to do a section followed by an option)
