Dear all,
I am new with tikiwiki & am in the process of getting to know tiki better wink

Does anyone here knows what does "plugin" in tiki means? I am actually will work with tiki on how to retrieve an XML file to be displayed in Tiki. Do i have to code a plugin to retrieve the XML file? and plugin is to be coded in php?

i am also browsing for information regarding the use of tiki for e-learning purposes, be it with LMS etc coz my idea of using tiki is to use it in the area of
e-learning or web-based learning. therefore, i am looking for a reading materials or success story for that purposes. pls let me know if any of you knows about this. Thanks very much

In tikiwiki, a Plugin is generally an additional kind of page element to be used in the wiki mark up syntax.

They can most definately use PHP code, but are generally just snippets. For an example of that, have a look in the libs/wiki-plugins directory.

Stuff for tiki can also be packaged into "mods" which are installable by a tiki admin. The mods can then install files.

However, they cannot add new menu entries, so either the modules (units of displayed items to go in the side columns) or wiki plugins route is the way to get any of it actually linked in to the rest of a tiki site.

Cheers,
Danny

Hi Danny & Xavi,

Thanks for the plugin info. I think i have an idea on how it will be used in my study :-) thanks again..very much..
actually if i get it right yeah, my 1st job with tiki is to create a plugin which can retrieve an XML file and parse the XML document to the browser. do you think it is possible? or are there any plugin like that already available??

Well, Xavi, i've browse thru information about aulawiki & the didet project (Laulima) from Stratclyde Uni. My research study is almost the same with project. I want to use tikiwiki as a platform for my study. I am looking at whether it can be used as a model for adaptive educational hypermedia authoring system. I hope this can be implemented.

I think i have to install AulaWiki in my PC. I haven't done so.

What about tikipro? is it the same with aulawiki??

feel free to comments or give me an idea of my study as well..thanks again :-)
