    I'm a tikiwiki newbie. I've just installed 1.7 by myself - miracles do happen!

    But I cannot seem to able to do many things including:
    - edit the application menu. I don't see a menu builder icon.
    - create a new forum topic or posting. There is no button for doing this
    - get shout or anything else to appear in the right column apart from the log in box., even though the box is checked and I've reloaded.
    - get the menus to expand and collapse. There are no +- buttons visible.

    Any ideas about where to start will be much appreciated.

    i'm replying to my own post.

    I have now just foun out that the double colon is a user interface device. Click on one of them to open the clam shell sub-menu.

    It's taken me about three days to discover this. Therefor I'm probably npot the only one.

    I recommend that you use a more normal + & i sign or at least an underscore or change the color or somehow indicate much more clearly that there is an open/close button that precedes certain menu items.

    The double colon is like an icon. So when combined with text, you think icon+text normally both go to the same location.

    Tikiwiki is saying icon does one thing, adjacent text does another. This is very problematic...

    This is my second reply to my own post:

    I still seems to be having problems with 1.7. Probably something to do with permissions.

    But it looks like the Forums on the SourceFrge site is a better place to post these sorts of questions. So I will move my question to there...

    I agree. In my case i was working as Admin and had the Admin menu expanded. While doing some operations on Categories i think, i got some error and landed up in home page. The Admin menu had collapsed (perhaps i'd done it myself) and i thought the Admin link was gone !

    Being new to tiki, i thought i'd corrupted Tiki and reinstalled it. The truth hit me 2 days later.
