    It shouldn't matter, the sending of mail is just a test. If the test fails you can still go ahead and install Tiki.

    Are you saying that it refuses to install? This really should be optional, I'm almost certain that it shouldn't matter if it is working or not, to install Tiki.

    Have you already created new users? From a fresh install there is only one default user: Admin (I think the password is Admin).

    As Xavi said, check out the documentation, that should help.

    For what it's worth, I did once successfully install Tiki on Ubuntu using Xampp. I found an excellent thread on the Ubuntu forums about installing Xampp. I'll see if I can find it again.
