migrating files from dtabase storage to directory

I suspect that there is no easy way to extract all the files from the database in an old tiki site and then stick 'em in a new Tiki install that uses a directory to store files. (I want to do this so I do not have file size limitations at the new install.)

Now I know I could blow an afternoon copying all the files to a folder on my computer and uploading them one by one to the new install.

I got to wondering though, if I created a directory with subdirectories (and yet more subdirectories) and ftp'd the whole shebang to the server and pointed Tiki to the main directory in config -if Tiki would pick up this directory structure in the file gallery and display the nice tree structure on the file gallery page.

-or am i just dreaming and this is going to be a file by file pain no matter what I do?

On the Admin: File Gallery page, there is a MOVE TO... button that will allow you to move files in database to a directory (and vice-versa).

Hey Rick, long time no yak! Good to see the work you've done with Tiki for Smarties has become the Tiki Bible.

Here's the situation. I've been a very bad boy. For one of my Tiki sites, my hosting service switched to Simple Scripts and it wouldn't update my old V2.2 from the original install to the newest Tiki version. I was advised in another forum post to simply install the newest version of Tiki and then point it to the old database. The new install would update the old database (hopefully accurately).

I suppose if that worked though I could use the Move to button, which I did see after I posted this.

Does this approach sound wise or am I in for a world of hurt no matter what I do?

Yup, this is exactly what I'd do. Note that you should make a backup copy of your database first... just in case!

To make things stranger, it would be great to share the same file galleries across two tiki sites but I'm sure that requires some custom programming.

I think I can probably use the file gallery page as a page in another Tiki install though, just like myou could use another website as a home page.

I know I'm out at the edge here. Just thinkin' and I know that's dangerous.
