Library needs guidance - upgrade path from old version to newest version

Hello,

I am a former library employee, now library volunteer, who is helping a library systems that is using tikiwiki as their internal intranet.

They are using an old version of tikiwiki, somewhere in the version 4 range, and I would like to get them to the newest version.

Can anybody give me any tips/recommendation/docs on the best way to go about this? Should I upgrade by version, 4-5-6-7, can I go right from 4 to 7? Steps in between?

Yes, you can upgrade directly from 4.x to 7.x (or 6.x LTS, if you prefer). I suggest that you review the version lifecycle to determine which version is best for your site.

Regardless of which version you upgrade to, I highly recommend reviewing all the intermediary Release Notes so that you're aware of all the changes (and there are many) since version 4.x.

Thanks for your quick response and warning. Luckily I am doing this in a virtual test environment first and can work out the issues.

But, ran into a major snag right off the bat. I did the upgrade from an old version to 7.2. It accepted my admin login account, but I could not access any of the admin modules without getting the "You do not have permission to use this feature: tiki_p_admin" even though this was the admin password for the previous version. I tried to reset my password within mysql just to see if this would somehow get it going, but didnt.

Any help getting over the issue whereby I am logging in with the admin account, it accepts it, but will not allow me access to admin pages?

Thanks!

Make sure the user "admin" is part of the Admins group so he gets tiki_p_admin

Thanks for your quick response!

How can I make sure that the admin user is part of the Admins group without having access to the admin pages? Is there a backdoor to this somehow? What I tried to do is login as admin and then type in the direct url to the admin homepages, but I get the permission error.

I do have ssh access to the server, and access to the mysql backend, any angles here that you can think of?

Thanks for your assistance!
