    • TikiWiki Sites Maintenance

    Hi All !
    From a lot of years ago, I am running two sites TikiWiki:
    http://ebawords.com
    http://ebasystem.com
    without being a computer genious and with the GREAT HELP of these forums...!

    But currently, the issue is the upgrade, maintenance, development, etc. of the sites that greatly surpass my possibilities and knowledge... and generally causes great problems of CPU in my current server: HostGator !

    Looking for solutions, I sent emails to all the "wiki experts hoistings" and wiki farms, but rigth to now nobody gives me that solution... everybody gives me the hosting (as HostGator gives me...) but not the wiki support !

    Perhaps in these forums, somebody know about a hosting or wiki farm that can host my 2 sites and give me the support in a complete way ( specially the upgrade of the first of the sites ) ?

    Any help WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED !

    But not only the TikiWiki Techs and authors does not answer... 24 emails I sent to the Google results for the search "TikiWiki Hosting" (including the sites you recommend) AND ALL THE ANSWERS WERE "WE DON'T WORK WITH TIKI WIKI ANY MORE ! SORRY !"

    I asked for paid help to professional programers and the answer was: "... I’ve run this past all of my programmers and nobody wants to work with Tiki, they tell me it’s a really limited system, generally we re-build sites like yours in Wordpress ..."

    WHAT SHOULD I DO ?

    at first I say, I am sorry for your experience.

    At second, I tell you, that we in the community should be able to help you; at least we will try and will not leave anybody behind without any answer.

    Even as volontary time is limited, some of us are professional coders and consultants ... just give it a start and tell us what is your actual problem.

    What do you have? What do you need? what do you want to achieve.
    Just first describe your problem please.

    Hi Azarober,

    It seems there must be some mistake that you would receive such an answer from hosting companies. I know for a fact that most, if not all, of the companies that advertise Tiki hosting do continue to work with it. I know this because these companies are currently hosting my own Tiki sites (A2 Hosting, Host Rocket) and a number of other people's sites that I have helped to install or configure. If you list the companies that you received such a response from, we can verify the details such as why they are falsely advertising a service they don't provide, if the situation is as you describe. Thanks.

    That said, it's good to pick the right tool for the task. If WordPress is more appropriate for the content, then WordPress would be a good choice. Most people using Tiki do so because it is the best tool for the job they have, I think, or else they just happen to like its features and it doesn't cause undue problems for them.

    As for getting help from Tiki developers, as you know from your many posts in the past requesting help, there aren't many people who have current Tiki code knowledge and also have time to help as volunteers. This is unfortunate but is just the reality of the volunteer community (especially in these days' economy) and we have to make the best of it. Offers like Torsten's show again the positive side of the community, that most people seem to experience. But if your Tiki experience isn't a good one, or you can't get enough appropriate help, then again I feel this would be unfortunate but you have the choice to use another software that's more suitable or satisfying.

    1) (I begin from the end...) My experience with Tiki Wiki is EXCELLENT, specially with my second site ( www.ebasystem.com ) the newer and most upgraded !
    My ONLY problem, BECAUSE MY LACK OF (69 YEARS OLD) KNOWLEDGE, is the upgrade of both sites www.ebawords.com and www.ebasystem.com !

    2) I DO NOT WANT to pass my sites to Wordpress: it was a consultant proposal, perhaps because they DO NOT know Tiki WIki... I WANT TIKI, BUT UPGRADED (at least for a couple of years...!!!)

    3) It is very rare, Gary, my old friend (almost co-author and co-webmaster of my sites...), A2 Hosting is in the first place of your recommendations and was the first that answered me "no more tiki wiki" !!! The rest of emails I deleted with anger, but the list is in Google...

    4) I know the simple problems are solved by volunteers, BUT I AM ASKING FOR A FEE HELP FOR A COMPLICATED (FOR ME) PROBLEM: TO UPGRADE MY SITES !

    Simply, I need a tiki wiki tech recognized or recommended by this community to do both upgrades and send me the amount I must send him via PayPal...

    My sites are hosted by Hostgator with full cPanel access: www.ebawords is an ADDON of www.eba-stats.com and www.ebasystem.com is an independent site ! Both sites applies ONLY, SIMPLY AND EXCLUSIVELY the WIKI option of the TikiWiki program, NO MORE !!!

    I think, maybe it would not be a too complicated job for me and it might be worth to give it a try.

    In respect to the fee, maybe we could agree some kind of donation for the community. I am searching a funding for some features I'd like to see extended in functionality.

    If you would like to donate s.th. you could afford, and what do you think my work would be worth, I would be fine.

    The donation should be allocated to one of the features and the amount should be defined by yourself.

    What do you think?

    You can also understand the permissions system as explained in the documentation:

    http://doc.tiki.org/Permissions

    You might be having some object permissions interfering with your blogal permissions. Or category permissions interfering with your global permissions, etc.

    Luckily Torsten will help you on your permissions needs.

    Closed a high price and conditions, this was a waste of time of a whole month (skypes and emails without answer during the last two weeks...!): my visitors and registered members goes on complaining I don't give them the promised open site !

    It's impossible to read articles and comments at http://ebawords.com/ and I need the help (inclusive paid) of this forums !

    I need the paid assistance to solve those problems and to upgrade mu two tikis:

    http://ebasystem.com/ (this site can wait to version Tiki 10)

    WHAT I DO NO UNDERTAND ? Tens of visitors also do not understand the "Issue" !!!

    First, I continue to think that you're confusing the Tiki terminology of articles and wiki pages. Please review the docs to be sure you understand the difference. It will be extremely difficult for me (or anyone else) to help, if we're not using the correct terminology.

    Articles
    I see no issue with your articles. I am able to ready every article on your site (as listed on http://ebawords.com/tiki-list_articles.php) as Anonymous.

    If you have an article that cannot be read as Anonymous, please post the URL.

    Wiki pages
    I'm able to see 100s of wiki pages (http://ebawords.com/tiki-listpages.php) as Anonymous. For example, the page http://ebawords.com/tiki-index.php?page=180+Shooter displays fine for me.

    If you have a wiki page that cannot be read as Anonymous, please check:

    • Did you apply object permissions to the page?
    • Is the page in a category? If so, what permissions are applied to that specific category?

    Try comparing the page with another wiki page (such as http://ebawords.com/tiki-index.php?page=180+Shooter) that is known to be correct.

    I also suggest that you review the Permissions docs, especially the differences between Group, Category, and Object permissions (and how they work together).

    Please note, these are wiki pages not articles. In your prior messages you have talked about changing permissions for articles. I think you're confusing the two features. This may be the reason that you've been unable to get assistance.

    The two problems are differents, but I do not receive help for no one of the two...

    Read here and here, I am doing it for years and I do not understand NOTHING out to write about basketball... and THAT the reason I am asking for paid assistance, but also for this the community does not help me !

    As I've said repeatedly, you're confusing the difference between articles and wiki pages.

    I'm able to read the articles just fine.

    The Read More link goes to a wiki page — not an article.

    Please read the docs so that you fully understand the difference between the two.

    I also suggest that you review the Permissions docs, especially the differences between Group, Category, and Object permissions (and how they work together).
