    • RSS and site down

    Hi, well I learnt something about RSS and what happens when the feed site goes down.

    In the last while as TW has been experencing down time my TW RSS feeds caused me a ton-o error messages. This was on a 1.9 TW's but I would guess that all vers. would get grumpy when the rss feed is not forthcoming.

    Question?
    Is there a way to prevent the feed from giving an error message when the feeding site is down?

    I have gone to moving these feeds off the home pages but it seems like there would be some way to say

    do not display if feed down

    is this a spot for the famous if statment?

    Hi James,

    The hard part here, is what do you set a timeout too? If the site is down after 10 seconds? 30 seconds? Its a difficult one to work out the best answer for. Any delay will make your site look bad whilst that feed is attempted to be retrieved.

    No easy answer, so I just disabled RSS feeds from my sites smile
