Add log in module, help for a newbie

Hi, thanks for all the resources here.
I am completely new to this and bumbling around getting frustrated with things that are probably really simple!

I have uploaded the program (ver 17.1), set up some configurations/ settings, no problems there. But I am now trying to create the pages. I am finding that the official documentation, the Smarties series, and the forum assume things that I don't know. So I'm asking for realllly basic info. For example, to put a log in section on the welcome page:

1) Themes- I understand that not all modules work with all themes. I am using TheNews. Does the log in module work with this theme or do I need to change it?

2) Configurations- What configurations do I need to have set to have the log in module available? I have gone to Settings, Log In, and checked "users can register"., and configured a few other things. Are there other settings in this section that need to be checked (or un-checked) for the Log In Module to be available? Are there settings in another section that need to be checked or un-checked for the Log In Module to be available? Or am I good to go as far as configurations to make this module available?

3) Moving the module to the Home Page- Once the module is available, how do I get it on the page where I want it? From the Home Page, I know how to put a section in "edit" mode. I can go to the Admin Settings, click on the Modules, and under the "list all modules" tab I can see the Log In Module listed. But how the heck do I get the module on the Home Page?

Thank you!!

Yes. The Log In module works with all themes. If you have a brand new Tiki, you should see the Log In module in the top bar, by default.

When you add the Log In module to a Tiki column, be sure that you've assigned it to the Anonymous group (so that you can see it when you're not logged in). Also, make sure you haven't configured the module to appear only for specific categories, sections, etc. Please see the docs for details.

If you want to add the Log In module to a wiki page (instead of it appearing in a column), you'll need to use the Module plugin. This plugin allows you to add a module (such as the Log In module) to a Wiki page. Please see the docs for details.

Hi Carey, if you are using the Fivealive theme, you will not see login modules, there is a bug that has been reported for this but it has not been updated yet. Any other theme you'll be fine, but Fivealive has it's issues.
See here at https://dev.tiki.org/item6279-Icons-Unseen-with-Fivealive
I am running tiki17.1 as well and Fivealive is not showing login modules either for that version.

EDIT: I just read a little closer and it appears you are using The News, you should be fine.
