Set HTML Globally

Hi,

I am wondering if it's possible to set HTML as the default markup for pages and posts globally, so this applies to all current and new pages/posts, overriding wiki markup?

I understand that you can set HTML on the individual pages and posts, but i wish to import blogs from WordPress which have many existing pages/posts containing HTML, and i would prefer not to have to deal with each page and post individually.

Cheers,

Kate

Kate, there is a check box for Import HTML so it appears that you can import pages from another source that are created with HTML, and it is preserved as such on Tiki.
But, I am not sure if you can make the entire site HTML by default.

Honestly, if you import the WP pages as HTML, and keep them as they are, then from now and forever use native tiki syntax for the rest of your work, I think you would be better off, the beauty of syntax is search engines love plain text formatting. Search engines give higher priority to plain text, and with the tikiwiki WYSIWYG, it's not that far of a leap to have the benefit of a familiar word processing editor that generates wiki syntax. I think your site will be better off in long run for it.

Thanks for your reply and the information John.

I have turned on the Import HTML setting but i'm not sure how to use it. A new field appeared on the Properties tab of the wiki pages (as picture attached). I have tried pasting html code into this field, entering a webpage url or a path to a html file on the local file system, and then press the 'Import' button, but this just takes me from the 'Properties' tab to the 'Edit page' tab and appears to do nothing else. I have struggled to find documentation about how to use this function.

Hello Kate,

It is a few weeks we are thinking on how to improve : https://doc.tiki.org/WordPress+importer
I can’t promise anything about this (and importing HTML) but it is interesting to have more (better) test on a real Wordpress website (I tested using a 4.9.1 I set up with a few pages only).

Did you try it ?
What would be missing for you ?

Thanks!

Hi Bernard,

Great to hear from you about this!

Yes i have been trying out the WordPress Importer and my concern is the amount of work for importing blogs that already have a number of pages and blog posts (the organisation i work with has 2 mature WordPress sites).

Currently, for each page imported, you need to go into the Properties tab and tick 'Allow HTML' and for every blog post you need to enclose the content in the HTML plugin tags. It would be great if the importer could automatically configure the 'Allow HTML' option for each page it imports, and for each post, add HTML plugin tags around the content.

Images embedded in pages and posts are an issue, and it would be great if the importer could import the image gallery and then resolve the tag src values to the new file paths in Tiki. WordPress markup like [caption] is also a problem. I am thinking i may be able to get around some of these issues if i write a program that parses the WordPress XML and makes some modifications to it, before loading this data into the Tiki Importer.

Finally, i have some pages that have the '&' character in the title, for example, a page entitled 'Members & Directors'. To create the url, WordPress ignores the '&' and the name in the path becomes members-directors. When these pages are imported into my Tiki Wiki, the '&' character causes a problem. The url Tiki has given this page is 'localhost/tiki/Members-?-Directors' and when i click to view the page i get the message 'Page not found Members-'. Tiki Importer could just ignore the '&' like WordPress does, and make the url for pages like that 'localhost/tiki/Members-Directors'.

Thanks!

Kate
