Thanks for your reply. "Use database for translation" is unchecked at my Tiki, and I have modifed the English language file in earlier versions, with the revisions showing up on displayed pages. (The fact that there is a lang/en/language.php seems to indicate that the language file is used even for English — this along with my having modified it before and seen the results.) But I'll keep checking. I'll try modifying another language as a test, too.
