Very slick. I, too, modified the search results page for better usability. However, instead of separate sections, I simply used a new column in the table (the section column, in example so that users can sort by type.
Regarding the non-secure seach, I was under the impression this was being worked on for 1.9 (see this thread.
I'm not a PHP expert (yet 
) and haven't delved into working on the issue.
