Hi Bernhard,

That's OK. wink

> Having modified the templates already to fit some special needs (e.g. take a look at how my menu works at http://www.mac-o-net.de/) I really don't like modifying templates.

Yes, triangles instead of folders — much better!

> Why is this: beacause I went the 1.8.x to 1.9 way, and it was a really lot of work to figure out, which templates changed and which not. Once you modify a template, with each new release, you've to check, whether your modification will still work, or whether the new templates feature something new which would be missing from your modified template.

I agree that modifying templates is a lot of work, but actually editing the icon image paths is probably one of the easiest kinds of modifications you can make, as it's just a matter of searching for and replacing the path strings. In my case, I was already committed to using modified templates for layout reasons, so changing the images was just one more rather minor step.

> I'd love to just have to replace icon's in question in a separate style/img directory. But as this doesn't seem to be possible, I'm going to just replace the originals. As my site doesn't feature user changeable themes, this is the easiest way to keep the administration work low.

Yes, that's certainly more efficient for images that will be used in all themes, or in the single theme that your site uses. That's the method I used to replace the menu open/close images with triangles, so these are used with all non-phplayers menus. I also replaced the Browse Categories page images because the originals don't work well on dark pages (see http://www.phinixi.com/tiki-browse_categories.php — still needs work, though, as the meanings of the images aren't really clear).

> The TW programmers might think about this. IMHO it's not a good style to change templates just to fit a different data set. It's ok, if you need to add/modify functionality, but not for exchanging images.

As I recall, there was an effort to add a user-selectable icon set feature to Tiki a few years ago, but I guess it ran out of steam. I don't know if anything like that is on the list for the future.

Ah, should have written more, on what to look at :-) . I've seen that you also modified the templates to have a differen menu look&feel. That's a template modification I wanted to point to. In addition I made small changes to the bottom-bar to show a total article+wiki page number, and to the main parsing to include special unique SEF URLs.

My site doesn't feature too much customization, I wanted to stay away from that. I didn't want to point to this small picture modification either you are referring to. But modifying the menu-bahaviour (at least for me) included the most tiki-template modification.

I don't know, how you did solve this with your dynamic pop-up menus. I'm not a good CSS/template hacker and happy that it works now, the way I intended it originally. But your menu-style looks much better!
