See the Structures doc page for an overview. A structure puts navigation icons at the top of each structure-member page, and creates a structure table-of-contents page as its home. This page is a simple outline of links by default but can be edited to add more detail. On the Admin Structures page, you can create a new structure and populate it with existing pages or you can make an outline of new pages to be edited. Permissions can be applied to an entire structure of pages instead of the usual one page at a time.

Structures are very useful for groups of pages within a site, especially for pages that have a natural sequence. I used one to organize pages about a trip we took, with a page for each destination. I also used nested structures to organize my daughter's online-learning lessons, making a large hierarchy that's easy to navigate.
