How to bring a removed page back?

Hi,

I read I (as an dmin) can bring removed pages back, but how? I've been looking everywhere, but can't find it, so my best guess: I'm overlooking something very obvious probably.

A member with special priviliges removed a page a few days ago, and we'd like to restore it if possible.

Thanks,

Lex

When you delete a page, there's an option that aks if you want the page permanently deleted (that is, all versions removed from the database). If that option was selected, then I think you may be out of luck — the page is gone. cry

You do make daily backups, right? rolleyes

No I don't... Once a week or even once every two weeks. Anyway, let's say that *wasn't* selected, how than would I be able to get it back?

And: Thanks for your answer!

Well, if they only deleted specific version of the page, you can rollback the history to a prior version. On the tiki-page_history.php of the page in question and select R to rollback to a specific version.

Thanks Rick, i nthat case 'bad luck', i can't get to the page at all, i was hoping there was some department in the admin part, where these things could be arranged. It was the first version of the page, so it's gone now... Ah well, second time things always get better ;)

Thanks for all your answers!

Hey Lex, I think you are out of luck on this one.

Do a Page name search for the page. You can do this from a search box or from the list pages page. If your page does not show up then I would say it is gone. The page back up and restore function only works if the history is not removed. If the page is removed and the "remove all pages in history" check box is checked then the page will be gone.

You can also use the calendar to show the page changes. If the page was deleated and not the history it will say something like "pageX page removed version 2" And, oh no, if it says "pagex page removed" well then it is time to hope you can use your backups if the page is important.

There are several safe gaurds you can do to prevent this.

  • check the setting in the admin wiki page.

"Never delete versions younger than days"

Change this to some older date so that new revisions might be removed but the older version remains.

  • set delete perms for your users.

Only allow some people be allowed to delete pages.

  • Set up watchs for pages changes. Make TW send you an e-mail with page changes etc and you will have the page in your mail box if you need to replace it. Now this can be a bit of a box filler if you have a lot of site changes. However, if you set it up right you could have different folk get the backups for thier own depts and have them resposible for page deletions.

Hi James, thanks for your post! First thing I'll do is search for that "never delete versions younger..." setting and change it.

Thanks for the ideas,
Lex
