The layout is set in the module's template file: a table is made for each image, and the default behavior of tables is to go full-width and tile downward.
Here's an early (or late) birthday present. For the images to tile horizontally, I made last_images_th module file mutants called last_images_th_horizon.tpl and last_images_th_horiz.php, which are zipped together and attached here. Unzip the files and upload the php file to your /modules directory and the tpl file to the templates/modules directory. Then use it in a wiki page something like {MODULE(module=>last_images_th_horiz,align=>left, max=10,decorations=>n,width=100%)}{MODULE}.
The tpl file has some inline CSS that tells the images to float left; that's what makes them go horizontal. You can put the module within a DIV plugin with a float=right parameter if you want it to be flush right instead of flush left.
See an example at this test page.
