Directory - How to List

posts: 9

I'm trying to list the categories of my directory on the home page. The only way I have been able to do that so far, is by making an external link, with the url pointing to the directory category. However when arriving there, I don't see a list of the existing wiki in that category (only when clicking search).

Is there a better way to put links of the directory on the home page, so that users would see the listing of pages in that particular category? Or is the usability of the directory really that limited?

Thanks!

How about using the category plugin:

Copy to clipboard
{CATEGORY(id=1+2+3+4,types=>directory, sub=>y)}{CATEGORY}

I'm not sure if you are talking about the Directory of links (tiki-directory_browse.php) or the Category feature (tiki-browse_categories.php). These two things get confusing because both have "categories" but they aren't the same.

If you mean the tiki-browse_categories.php page and if you want to make a link to there, you can use a link with this form — tiki-browse_categories.php?find=&type=&deep=on&parentId=0&sort_mode=name_asc — and the tree will be expanded with subcategories and objects showing when the page opens.

Thanks to both of you guys!

I agree that category and directory are a bit confusing. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the Directory seems to function more as a list of links related to user defined topics?

Yes, it's a links page/collection, maybe like http://dmoz.org/ on a very small scale.

looks like this thread is a very old one but still I am wondering is there a way to put the directory browsing at the homepage..

couldn't find how to do it.. the only module available are "directory_last_sites", "directory_top_sites" and "directory_stats"...

If there is a "directory_browse" would be great.. so is there a work around with this..

thanks...
