Another way to check for PHP mail() is to upload the attached file ("mailtome.php") to your server, after editing it to insert your own email address. Then you can go to this file with your web browser and when it loads you should see the "mail sent" message, if all's well with your server. Check in your mail program, and you should have gotten the email.
