How to copy tikiwiki content from one installation to another

i have a copy of 2.1 installed on one machine with about a years worth of content.

i have a new machine that i just installed 3.0 on fresh.

is there any quick way of transfering the content from the 2.1 installation to the 3.0 new machine?

I'm not sure about how to transfer just your original Tiki content between installations. What I would do is do a database dump (export copy of the complete database) from the 2.1 installation and then create a new database (empty - no tables) on the second installation and add to it, using phpMyAdmin or other mysql client, the copied 2.1 tables. Then run the new 3.0 installation's install script using the database connection info for this database containing your old info. The script will update the database structure, etc., but not affect your content and prefs, etc. In other words, duplicate the old database and then update it, rather than repopulate with your old data a new 3.0 database. Maybe other people can suggest other procedures for this.

I would just add to the explanation from Gary, that I would first upgrade 2.1 to 2.latest (2.4), because there were a few database changes between 2.1 and some 2.x releases.
And then, the normal upgrade 2.latest to 3.x
