    I couldn't get the Youtube module to work either (displays nothing). But I made a user module a while ago with this syntax to play a Youtube playlist in a module. Maybe this will give some ideas about urls, etc. You can see it at zukakakina.com. It has a thumbnail of the first video and links for a shadowbox popup and to open in a new window.
