What I meant is that if a head doesn't have the embedded JavaScript defining jqueryTiki, it's expected that code using jqueryTiki will fail. The head you showed doesn't have the necessary JavaScript, so your problem is to be expected.
Darkroom isn't a Smarty template, it's a theme. Themes using custom Smarty templates can cause issues. Darkroom uses custom Smarty templates, but apparently only a single minor one which shouldn't cause your problem. Still, it's worth it to try switching to a well-tested theme such as Strasa.
