[SOLVED] Error message during installation

I am following the installation instructions at :http://doc.tiki.org/Install+Tiki+on+XAMPP#Step_3:_Create_a_database_for_Tiki.
I already have Xamp, apache and Mysql installed and running. I am logged on as administrator in windows 7 with full priveledges. testwiki is the directory where the wiki files are stored.
When I get to the bit where I have to browse to:

http://localhost/xampp/htdocs/wikitest/tiki-6.1

to start the installation and click return, I get the message:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The requested URL was not found on this server. If you entered the URL manually please check your spelling and try again.

If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.

When I hi-light the tiki-6.1 folder in my file browser, tiki-index.php shows at the bottom of the folder, indicating that I am at the correct location.

Apache runs mysql with no problems when I use Dreamweaver CS4 for other web sites using PHP and Mysql on Apache.
I am running windows 7 64 bit. The file path is correct as can be seen on the attached snippet (if it works at all - I uploaded it but it does not show on preview)and all the files in tiki.6.1 are visible and unpacked in the tiki-6.1 directory.
Am I to assume that tikiwiki will not run on a Win7 64 bit box, or is there something that I have missed?

Tiki is *supposed* to run on Windows 7, although Windows is definitely not the best supported OS. You could try the WebPI installer if you have trouble this way.

Did you try going to a file directly, for example tiki-index.php which is indeed the start page, or tiki-install.php where you should be brought?

Hello Chealer 9
Clicking on a file in windows just brings up whatever program deals with it. In my case, PHP only runs in a Dreamweaver page under Xampp, which is what the tiki is supposed to do. I can only run it on the Windows 7 machine, as both my other machines are fully occupied with other programs. It has a windows XP hardware 32bit virtual machine, but I doubt that it will be capable of running three more servers.

I will try the Microsoft WebPI installer, but if that does not work then I will have to look for a more compatible program to do what I want, or write my own. Tiki looks ideal, but if it won't install on my local machine then its no good to me.
Thanks for the help

I had a look at the WebPI, but it wants to use IIS express and lots of other Microsoft stuff. I already use IIS for some of my older websites, and fear that If I install these other applications, it may damage my other programs in some way. Its not worth the risk.

I'll find another suitable wiki type program that will run on the web.
Thanks again.

Just install the files as instructed. Set up a php Dreamweaver site which takes 3 minutes to do. Load the index file. Press F12.

The wiki code loads and runs, sets everything up and asks a few questions along the way.

Now I have a fully working system, but have to spend lots of time working out how to use it, and to get rid of the many features that I will not need.
Took a while, but should be worth it inthe long run.
Hope this helps others using Win 7 64 bit. Provided they have Dreamweaver of course!
