One idea more:

Could one of the PHP experts take a look at the implementation of XMLRPC of XOOPS. To download the package go to http://www.xoops.org].

I have used XOOPS more than 1 year and it works fine together with w.bloggar and similar apps. XOOPS has not a blog system, but you can manipulate articles over XMLRPC.
