Can't disable https access

While configuring a new TikiWiki installation, I erroneously set an option to require SSL connections, thinking that this was one of my domains that had SSL enabled. Now anytime I try to access the wiki, the basic "mysite.org/WIKI" domain gets redirected to "https://mysite.org/~siteowner/WIKI". I got a popup about an invalid certificate, which I then overrode. I can still login in as admin (though it always takes two tries, and it first tries to save/download the logo image for some reason), and I can still view the wiki pages, but the moment I try to access an admin function, it claims I'm not logged in and bounces me back to the login box.

So, based on someone's advice, I got into the MySQL data base and manually reset whatever I could find that seemed related, starting with https_login -> disabled, and next setting login_http_basic -> y or n or anything but ssl. None of these changes have affected the problem.

Can someone please advise me as to what else I need to check. Does something get set outside of the MySQL database that needs to be reset as well?

As a followup to the above, if I wanted start from scratch with a fresh install of Tiki WIki, is it possible to somehow preserve the content that's already been created and restore it after the clean version is up and running again? I assume this would entail backing up and restoring the relevant portion of the mySQL database, but I have no experience with this sort of thing.

I do think I understand the general process of backing up mySQL; my question is, which parts do I back up (and restore), and which parts do I leave behind in order to avoid cloning whatever my current configuration problem is?

Final followup.. I muddled through a backup of selected contents of the database, reinstalled, and then restored from the backup. It was not without its complications: the homepage was not restored, and it took a while to track down the original pages and recreate the hierarchy. But after a few hours of work, I'm back on track.

If you re-run the installer (tiki-install.php), you should be able to change SSL via there.
