In which folder do I unzip?

It seems I am confused a little bit on this:

I use 10.2 and want to upgrade to the new 11.0.

My site is (say)
wiki.space.com

My wiki folder is at
public_html/wiki

I uploaded the tar.gz file to my server and unziped it to a folder with the temporary name
wiki_11
which is located at public_html/wiki_11

What do I do now? Do I understand wrongly that I rename the previous wiki folder in something else (eg. wiki_old), the folder containing the new files to wiki and run the php command (at wiki.space.com/tiki-install.php)? But if I do that, tiki will try to do a fresh installation and not an upgrade.

Ah, as I said, it seems I am confused.

You need to replace your existing ../wiki/*.* files & folders with the new Tiki 11 items. Then run the tiki-install.php file and select the Upgrade option.

 Important
Be sure to backup any customizations... you'll need to restore them after the upgrade.

Be sure to review the documentation for details. You might find my upgrade guide helpful...

Hi,
you did it correctly. Now you just run the Tiki installer and after you give the db user credentials and fill in the current database name (you backed up before) in second step there will be links to the upgrade steps.

If you want the upgrade steps to appear immediately you need to copy the db/local.php file from your previous version.

Yeap, that was it. So to make it easier for the rest with same question: Follow these steps.

(a) upload new tiki version on your server.
(b) unzip it in a folder that is parallel to your existing tiki installation folder. Mine was public_html/wiki, so unzip at public_html/new_tiki (names given as examples).
(c) rename your existing wiki folder to /wiki_old. From that moment your wiki will not open (of course). This folder is your backup now.
(d) rename new version tiki folder with the name your existing installation was using (so in my case, /wiki)
(e) from here on follow the instructions found elsewhere (look for example what ricks99 writes above), in order to connect new version with existing database, upgrading your installation.
(g) enjoy
