Minor off topic:
Sorry to post without actually answering your question, but wanted to add the reason I myself don't use the WYSIWYG editor (although I would prefer to): Pressing enter creates a huge distance from next paragraph, something like 3 times the height in the other editor.
If, by "playing around with the options offered for the WYS editor" find a solution to that, please post it!
