(If MS Excel provides the validation you need, why don't you use it, then?).
Regarding Spreadsheets, you are free to request the improvements you need. Even if as I told you, with Trackers you could handle your data the way you are looking for.
Or maybe Using a desktop app like LibreOffice or Excel you would have enough?
