Modify Search Results

Hey all,

When I do a search on my site, it brings up about 30 results per page, I want to reduce that to 10 results, how do I go about doing so? The admin search section didn't show such option.

Also, when I'm browsing a category's contents, my site shows a listing of my site's categories on top of the results. How do I make it that, when I'm viewing the contents of a category, only the pages in that category shows. I don't want the list of categories on top.

Again, I didn't see any options on the admin panel to make the above changes, let me know what files I would need to edit.

Thanks!

You want to artificially "hide" valid results from the search? I'm not sure if this is possible — if there are 30 results, Tiki will show all the results (that you have permission to view).

I'm not sure I understand. When searching within a category, there's an option to view the results only within a specific category:

Please see the docs for details.

When performing a site-wide search, you can filter your results to a specific category:

Rick, I don't want to hide any results. I want to modify the pagination function. For example if 150 results come up for a search, currently, it is split between 3 pages, with each page having about 30 results. I want each page to have 10 results instead of 30.

Sorry for the confusion, I didn't mean anything in regard to searching through categories. I've attached a picture below, I want to remove the items in the red box. I have a large number of categories, when a user is viewing a category, the content of the big box takes a huge chunk of the page, I would like to remove it to free up some space.

Ahhh.... you simply want to change the number of items per page.... use the Pagination Links options. Please see the docs for details.

I don't think there's an option for this, but you can easily remove the category tree by modifying the theme CSS or template TPL file. My primer provides hints on how to do this here and here.

Of course, your site visitors will no longer be able to navigate to view items in different categories. An alternative could be to use a deeper category structure (for example, create a parent "Rap" category and move all the Rap-categories to it). This way, you could toggle (show/hide) them and save screen space.

Tx Rick, that's exactly what I was looking for. I think I'll take your solution for the categories as well.
