Wiki Page content changes based on how it is viewed

We have a page in the Wiki portion of our Tiki install which is exhibiting some very troubling symptoms.

When it was last saved, the saved copy changed in appearance from what had just been saved. Very specifically, some of the text is missing, and an ordered list no longer is shown as numbered, and some images that were in a table are still being shown but the table they were in has disappeared.

The page is the latest version and has been approved. From the reporting user's report it is unclear if the page appearance changed after the page was saved, or when it was actually approved. At one point there were two identical copies (so claimed the history diff) yet one of them displayed correctly and the other did not.

If we go to "History" and then click on the "v" link to show it in preview mode, suddenly the missing text re-appears, the ordered list is numbered properly, and the images are back in the table.

The "source" button at the bottom of the page also shows the correct HTML. But if we edit the page and view source from there, the missing and incorrect text is shown.

We were able to fix the issue by doing a convoluted rollback sequence as the admin user, but this did not initially work when the group lead (which approval and other rights for the group owning the category for the page) tried to do the same thing.

However, we have a snapshot of the bad state, and as our users have reported issues such as this numerous times we want to get to the bottom of what is going on.

What would be the best way to get to the bottom of what is going on? We would be happy to pay somebody to fix it, but we have not had a too much luck in the past finding consultants referenced by the Tiki list who are actually knowledgeable about the code and have the time to help us.

(we are currently using version 12.9)

Without actually seeing the page or site, it is may be tough to diagnose. But here are some things to check:

  • What was added/changed to the page to cause the issues?
  • Are you editing in Wiki or WYSIWYG mode? Are you switching back and forth?
  • Does this happen on a single page, or multiple wiki pages?
  • Which (if any) plugins are included in the page?

I've seen lots of strange things happen if there are opening tags without a corresponding closing tag. Confirm that all tags and plugins are properly closed — sometimes a missing parenthesis is the culprit.
