1.8.3 Broke my System

When will I learn? When the hell will I ever learn??

I made the stupid mistake of trying to upgrade my 1.8.2 to 1.8.3. I follow the instructions, replaced my old files...And now..Nothing. I get a blank page a timeout error everytime I try to access my tiki.

Thanks, guys.

Any ideas before I restore my 1.8.2 and forget the upgrade?

Okay...I've been working at this all day.

Apparently, the upgrade has destroyed my old tiki database as well. I've been trying to restore it all day with no success.

Even when I re-installed 1.8.2 and tried to see my site, all I got as a long delay and blank pages. The restored database looks perfect. The old files look perfect. I don't get it--but, the system is broken.

I had a 40 meg database there full of tiki information that I can't access now.

Well 1.8.3 has no database updates, so I cant see how that happens.

Guess you have a backup ?

btw. did you reset file permissions by running the setup.sh afterwards?

My upgrade went smoothly on my non CVS site. untard, cp the files over, browse the tiki-index.php, as no db scripts to run.

Hope you fix it.

I appreciate the kind words, Damian, but the fact is, the system is still down. I don't know what's wrong with it. I am SO ANGRY at myself for trying to upgrade the system considering the disasters I've had with every upgrade from tikiwiki since 1.7.2.

Why the @#($(@ can't you guys get it together enough to offer a "changed files" package instead of asking us to replace every old file on the server? That's what is causing all this commotion. Moving a dozen or so files would've been a cinch. Replacing every file is a pain, and it's totally unnecessary.

As much as I love tikiwiki, I'm getting more convinced by the day that I should just leave the updates alone and make my own tweaks.

Manpower, if you want to accept the task, and do this, its welcome. If you know of someone who wants to manage this. Please step forward.

Hmm...Okay. I tried it a second time and everything went fine. Mysterious!

Sorry about the hot-tempered post. I realize you guys are doing everything you can, and it is free after all. If there is any way I can help you out, please let me know. I'm still learning with PHP, but I'd like to help.
