Blank page after attempted upload of jpg to image gallery

I have a problem similar to others posted here - upload gif's - works fine (but no thumbnail just as expected) - when we try to upload a jpg (100KB test) - blank white page - unsuccessful upload. Setup...

  • debian stable + apache 1.3.x + php 4.x + latest imagemagick .deb from apt + mysql 4.x
  • image gallery settings:
    • Library to use for processing images: Imagick
    • storing images to a directory - apache running as 'nobody' - nobody has write privileges to the directory
      • drwxrwxr-x 2 nobody abc 4096 Jun 7 17:41 image-gallery-files
  • tiki's (separate tiki for each project/group): most at 1.8.2, some upgraded to 1.8.3 so far - same problem with both
  • php settings
    • file_uploads = On
    • upload_max_filesize = 500M
    • post_max_size = 500M
    • memory_limit = 16M
    • max_input_time = 60

the weird thing is I have a server at home with two tiki sites (1.8.2) running under SUSE 9.0/apache2.x/latest imagemagick/php4.x/mysql4.x and jpgs work just fine in the image galleries

I know it's a server setting - but just can't figure out which one. Have run out of ideas - any suggestions?

Yo,

tikiwiki.org runs on the debain platforum and the image galleries had to be moved to uk.tikiwiki.org because of a debain problem. You might be in a similar boat.

Although If your using imagick for graphics the thumbnails for GIFs should work.

You could also try setting your memory limit to 32Mb and possibly install Turck-MMCache to optimise and speed up the code.

Also whats your version on PHP? 4.x is open to be anything 4.1 to 4.3.6 and some tiki features dont work with early 4.1 See the InstallTiki page for a link to setup guides and TIki requirements

Apart from that Im not sure. I'm on Fedora Core

Wow - thanks for the quick reply — I'll look into the things you suggested.

We're running Imagick 5.5.7 and PHP 4.3.6

Aside from a couple minor snags the Tiki app is awesome! - we're using it internally like crazy — six separate tiki sites created this past month (one per development project team or group) and more being added every week now.

In my opinion - everyone who works on this app (and open source projects in general) is performing the ultimate in global community service. People in the Peace Corps help small groups of people around the world - but you guys are helping the global community!

Problem solved!

One of our admins discovered the solution. On debian, php just needs to be rebuilt with the flag -with-jpeg-dir=/path/to/libjpeg
