Why there is no translation option for some pages?

I had set Multilingual structure and Multilingual pages at Tikiwiki Admin side.

Then I tried to set up a new structure. I added several pages to that structure.

But, I noticed that there is no translation option for some pages, while I can see translation option for another page in the same structure. frown

What is wrong?

I am really a newbie here. Please help me. I think Tikiwiki will drive me crazy !

Any page can have a translation, of course, so I'm not sure why the interface is not the same for all your pages. Anyway, if you follow the directions on doing page translations, things should work ok.

Thank you Gary, I also think it is very weird.

Do you mind if I give you Admin account and you log in my wiki to help me find the source of problem?

The page I can't find translation link/button is: http://www.joomlagate.com/wiki/tiki-index.php?page=Overview(James+Kennard).

If you have some time to help me, please tell me how can I send you the Admin account.

Thank you very much!

I think I found some clue to this problem.

I am using Tikiwiki v2.2 and the Tikipedia theme.

After I created a new Structure with tree list, then I began to edit one of those pages. I click the pagename and open the Editor, then I paste into some English texts. Next, I clicked the Save button.

After the page was saved, I think I should lock the English version because I only want other users to Translate it, not Edit it.

So I clicked the Lock button.

Now I noticed that the Translate button disappeared !!!

That is to say, if I create a page and lock it before set the language for that page, the Translate option/button will not show up anymore!!!

Don't you think this is a very bad design?

When I lock that page, I only want to prevent other people to edit it, NOT stop them to translate it. So why take away the Translate button?

In addition, why there is no option to set the language for a page when creating/editing it?

I think the Tiki team should improve this to make it more convenient for Multi-lingual feature.

Thanks.

I submitted a bug report about this at dev.tikiwiki.org, as I agree it seems like a bad design. Unless there's some logic that we're both missing, this behavior should be changed. Assuming it is fixed, probably the fix will in the version of Tiki scheduled to be released next March.

Very glad to see that you agree with me.

It is my honor that my suggestion can make Tikiwiki better ! biggrin

No problem, I have the patience to wait for the fix and next new version.

Thank you all!

Today I tested this issue on Tikiwiki v2.4 stable, this problem still exists:

If I click the Lock button above the title after the wiki-page was saved, then the Translate button will disappear which should still be there.

Hope you can fix this bug in v3.

Thanks.

It's not really a bug. You can still translate a "locked" page. In 3.0, simply use the language drop-list at the top of the page and select Translate.

As long as you have the necessary language permissions, you can create a translation of the locked English page.

Ok, I agree that is is not really a bug. But, why hide the Translate button when Lock the page? Is this necessary?

Some users may find it difficult to see the translate link at the bottom of the dropdown menu. Why not leave the Translate button at the top of the page untouched when locking the page?

Thanks.

I'm not sure... I guess it was a design decision: for locked pages do not display the page bar a the bottom.
