Smarty help to make switch user (in login box module) respect pref user_show_realnames (needed in some LDAP environments, at least)

Hi:

I'd like to see how difficult it can be to make the "switch user" form
of the login box module obey the pref to show RealName instead of
username...

Use case: LDAP setups with numeric ID's for usernames: the admin needs
to be able to switch to some user's account to check that settings and
perms are as expected for that usergroup, etc. I know the co-worker
names, but I don't know their ID's in the setup, other than manually
checking at the users list and infer it's name from their email.

This line seems to control it at the template for the login box module:

{autocomplete element="#login-switchuser_"|cat:$module_logo_instance
type="username"}

which implies that there is a function.autocomplete.php smarty_tiki file.

I managed to make the userrealname display in the dropdown box. But I
need that userrealname as label, while keeping the username as option to
be used internally (otherwise the switch user does not work, as far as I
could see)

1st attempt:
-------------------
I tried with this type of syntax, but it didnt' work:

{autocomplete element="#login-switchuser_"|cat:$module_logo_instance
type="userrealname" options="label:userrealname,value:username"}

since that is what I understood from here:
http://api.jqueryui.com/autocomplete/#option-source

2nd attempt:
-------------------
I also tried modifying function.autocomplete.php and the
mod-login_box.tpl to end up producing this syntax (as I could see in the
html source of the produced page):

$("#login-switchuser_2").tiki("autocomplete", "userrealname", { source:label:%22userrealname%22,value:%22username%22 });

but it didnt' work either.

Any tips on how to write it in the proper jquery and smarty syntax?

Xavi

Been trying to get to this one for over a week now but just no time, sorry, thought i better reply to keep the thread going! ;)

I have a similar problem on a recent site using login_is_email so would like to improve this at least for 15...

Hope i can find time to do it soon, remind me :-)

Thanks Jonny.

I've just noticed that the action log still needs that improvement: it
display only usernames, regardless of the setting to display RealName
instead of username where possible.
I've created a new section for this feature at dev.t.o (keeword/page +
category + wish list), so that it's easier to keep track of detected
issues, pending to look at, etc:

Hi guys,
Is that wise?
The action log is mostly for tracking what people do. Since real names can
change and they are not even unique, maybe the login should still be
displayed anyway?

Cheers

I think Xavi is asking for it to "show" rather than to "store" as realName.
The "show RealName instead of
username" pref is a post filter that if I am not wrong is called from
within the "username" and "userlink" smarty modifiers and also via some
AJAX autocomplete lookups, that converts a username to a real name, and if
I am not wrong if not unique it does even show "Real Name (username)" in
order to disambiguate. It's not spread everywhere in Tiki and only applies
in some places right now....

Ahh, if the username is stored, then changing the realname changes it
everywhere in the logs (including past logs). Got it, thanks.

Yes. And thanks for clarifications, Nelson (that's what I meant indeed)
