Tiki install, htaccess

Hello,

On a new trunk I just paid attention something was changed about htaccess.

"We recommend enabling the .htaccess file for your Tiki. This will enable you to use SEFURLs (search engine friendly URLs) and help improve site security.
To enable this file, simply copy the _htaccess file (located in the main directory of your Tiki installation) to .htaccess."

I recall it was called once the "bad" method as any changes to _htaccess (during update) won't be taken in account for. (It was suggested to do a symblink .htaccess to _htaccess)

Does that changed ?

I always used "sh _htaccess.sh". Is it obsolete ?

Hi Bernard

Good question - a while ago i added some other option to the web installer (for Marc, thanks ;) to allow more options on that

https://sourceforge.net/p/tikiwiki/code/55559

Maybe similar options are needed in htaccess.sh (and/or setup.sh)

Hi Bernard,

it is not obsolete but for FTP installs it is not easy/possible to
create symlinks as opposed to SSH installs.

I just redid a brand new install and found why it bothered me in first place.

—-

At /tiki-install.php 7 • Configure the General Settings, at the bottom it says:

Set up htaccess file
Method: (Automatic (default), make a symlink, make a copy, do nothing)
Select how to set up your htaccess file..

I would have verbose a bit if automatic is selected but it look pretty good for new coming to Tiki.

As the installer press the continu button he land on the "Enter Your Tiki" page.
There you got a bold titled paragraph:

.htaccess File
We recommend enabling the .htaccess file for your Tiki. This will enable you to use SEFURLs (search engine friendly URLs) and help improve site security.
To enable this file, simply copy the _htaccess file (located in the main directory of your Tiki installation) to .htaccess.

One is one too many and may induce confusion.
