Should we have a new prefix for usability/user interface commits?

In light of our recent focus on Design/Usability/User interface concerns
(anything which makes Tiki easy to use for newcomers and first-time users),
I wonder if we should have a new TAG for these commits.
It is typically not FIX, since it was working (if you knew how to), or
ENH because sometimes a new pref is needed for consistency.

Anyway, our current set of TAGs make a lot of sense when referring to bugs,
not so much when the issue is, we want to make Tiki more usable.

Cheers,
J-M

I like the idea of having a UX tag - but I haven't given deep thought yet
if it's just one UX or something like UXENH, UXFIX, UXNEW
etc...Just thinking aloud here,

I agree. As for me, it would allow me to pay special attention to interface improvement.

I think UX is enough, maybe we can combine with others for larger commits, eg: UX FIX

Good idea to specifiy with two tags ( is that convenient to "the rules"
respectively "best practices" of the active devs?

If yes, +1 from my side to UX FIX / UX ENH etc. as this sunds
logical and consistent to me, especially after the discussion yesterday.
Should be added to http://dev.tiki.org/UX .. shoulnd't it!?

+1 to this, it can merely be combined as two tags as needed.

Hi,

It seems to me the order should be FIXUX or ENHUX rather than
UXFIX or UXENH. My thinking is that the commit is a fix or an
enhancement for the purpose of user experience improvement so the tag
order should reflect that. A user experience related commit that's a fix
or that's an enhancement doesn't seem as good semantically to me. :-)

Hi,

good point, I fully agree. If double-tags, then better this way around.

Hi guys,

I summarized and committed in changelog.txt which is where we have this
list of tags:

  • UX for user experience improvements; makes Tiki easier to use and

understand (more details in https://dev.tiki.org/UX )

The part about combining existing tags is something we already do without
extra documented rules for the existing tags, so I felt it better not to
burden the reader with too much text.
Most of the people likely to commit participated in the discussion anyway
:-D

Cheers,
J-M

No, I don't think so. That page is about "what is UX", not about "how to
commit". Also we haven't reached any consensus yet.

More on the topic: to put more emphasis on UX-issues, I think it is a
good idea to have a dedicated tag for it. As Eric said this will also
make it easier for UI-focused guys to follow development and any way to
lower entry barriers for interested parties is welcome. (But keep in
mind that making UX-issues equal citizens in the bug world and not
singling them out should be the goal here.)

Since we can't use SXY as a tag, I think that UX is fine. UXFIX
and friends are way too unwieldy. UXFIX is ok with me, though I
don't particularly dig it. Maybe UXF and UXE would be a good (three
letter) compromise?

But I am actually not sure, if we need to distinguish betwenn UX fixes
and enhancements? Most probably that will become clearer though once
http://dev.tiki.org/UX paints a more telling picture.

Actually in the long run it will go on that page, too, yes.
