Loading... or Loading.. ?

Hello,

Tracking some untranslated strings…

I see different version of a string in Tiki15.x
In some language.php files I see "Loading…" (3 dot) or "Loading.." (2 dot)
Not both of them in the same file.

In lang/en and 81 other files it is "Loading.."
In lang/ca, lang/fr, lang/pt, lang/pt-br, lang/si, lang/sl and lang/vi it is "Loading…"

I couldn't find any string like "Loading.." that need translation in the other tiki files (templates, etc).
But a lot of "Loading…" that need a translation string (missing in most of the lang files).

Look to me like a partial fix ?
But I recall lang/en is automatically generated and it should show the strings used in tiki.
So… I'm puzzled and stop myself from changing manually "Loading.." to "Loading…" in the lang files were it is missing.

Any thoughts ?

Bernard

Hi Bernard,

I remember seeing both ways also. I thought two dots isn't correct, but
then figured maybe the third dot is added by the language code, but I
couldn't figure out how that sometimes is done and sometimes isn't. I
don't recall if I changed any or not, when I was working on language
strings last.

I think three is the best number, at least thinking about English usage;
I'm not sure about other languages. And technically, it should be

"Loading . . . " with spaces after the word and between dots/periods, or
anyway that's how it's done in print.

FWIW, the Microsoft Manual of Style says to use three dots for system
messages.

I agree it should be 3 dots.

But I smell something is wrong on another front.

I swept the code (not the lang files) and couldn't find anywhere "Loading.." but still it exist in most of the lang files.

Language are not generated automatically ?
And if so, why only 7 languages have been updated ?

lang/en (sort of master) has "Loading.." only.

Nowadays utf8 is well supported by all browsers and databases. Some of us
might not have figured out how to do them with their editor / keyboard, in
which case 3 dots are still ok. I suggest I help do some replacements.
