Possible rename of TRIM (which stands for Tiki Remote Instance Manager) to just "Tiki Manager"

posts: 246

I have the same crazy idea :-)

The order could change but as of now:

1- Make a ClearOS app so we get easy way to manage Tiki (essential for
WikiSuite) and improve the web interface (still many issues at the moment)

2- Convert as many as possible of the dependencies to pure PHP.
a) make -> Symfony Console
b) mysqldump -> https://packagist.org/packages/ifsnop/mysqldump-php
c) and others

3- Dependency on SCM will remain but we'll add Git as source for check-outs.

4- Package as a self-updating PHAR (like composer.phar which is used by
Tiki)
https://dev.tiki.org/Phar

5- Deploy within Tiki: built-in or as a Package
https://doc.tiki.org/Packages
so then, the .phar (standalone or within Tiki) could be used to manage any
number of Tikis.

6- Turn https://doc.tiki.org/Show.t.o-Tracker-Field into a generic field
type to manage Tikis from a Tiki.

At that point, since the Tiki-website-manager or Tiki-Manager or
Tiki-instance-Manager (whatever we pick) will be almost all in PHP, and
packaged as a .phar, so very easy to port to other package managers
(Debian, Ubuntu, etc. and even run on Windows)

So, as you can see, a lot of exciting work ahead!

Marc

That would certainly solve a lot of problems. If someone could install via FTP, or 1-click and then convert it into a managed website updates would become available. So would backups etc. Very exciting!

What is the planned version for the first integration into tiki?

Did you see my bug report: https://dev.tiki.org/item6664-TRIM-fails-to-install-Tiki. Could not get trim to install.

Part of it will be done in time for Tiki19. The rest for Tiki20.

Yes, I just commented on it.
