Problems with 'Sub-Forum' Usability

Why and who is responsible for adding this 'Sub-Forum' to the 'Features / Usability' Section?

It seems that it has screwed up the search. I enter my user name, mikeua, into the TableSorter search and it no longer displays my items, or items which I commented on but all items.

Also, it does not integrated well - basically, someone 'glued it in' on top.
Also adds a layer of complexity and more confusion.

It would seem that starting another Tracker (e.g. thread) for this topic would have been the simpler solution.

Mike

I added one (only one to test it as you can see) subforum but I didn’t added the code or the option in Tiki. :-)

But hey, that’s dogfooding ! (bug report created: https://dev.tiki.org/item7765-Tablesorter-filter-is-misplaced-in-the-forum-should-be-below-the-subforum-list)

Actually the tablesorter is doing the right thing.
BUT you and I expect it look at the discussions list and not the subforums list.
It is misplaced and should be just above the discussion list (table).

Dogfooding is great and important, when it affects only you.

When you force it on others, particularly new users to Tiki in the Forums (typically one of the first areas of 'on-boarding' new users), probably not the best idea, IMO.

When I took a look at other Forums, the vast majority use the same exact one (no idea what the app is called), and to be honest, it's not the most user friendly - typically very tiny text, old design. So Tiki's Forums do have a very unique and individual look, and better readability, however, are space in-efficient. Like many parts of Tiki, Forums need a complete re-design/overhaul, not patching.

What are you trying to achieve with the sub-Forums?

Hi Mike,

We assembled a team and meet every week to improve things about Tiki, Navigation, Users, etc. We do the best we can with the available resources (volunteers and available time) and our different improvement are discussed there, you are welcome to join. (we don’t offer cookies) 😉

Hope those will be fixed soon:

Hi Bernard,

Kind of what I thought would happen - now there are many 'sub-forums' with 'Last post - 19 days ago, 23 days ago, about a month ago, etc.', which will lead to a lot more 'inactivity' around them (before covid, you went to the 'cafe' with lots of people, not the one with no customers).

Fragmentation and limited resources.

The idea to separate the topics is fine, just the timing probably a little early - when there are at least 50 (?) new posts per day and also 10 - 20 (?) replies/comments to them, then it might be a good time to separate them out (e.g. when it becomes a problem). Before than, it seems more of an inconvenience for those who want to help and those that post comments for help.

Just my 2 cents as a user of the Forums which you may or may not want to pass along to the weekly meetings.

br,
Mike

Hi Bernard,

ok, that's great. Unfortunately, I cannot participate, my time is too limited, but please to pass along my thoughts.
