Newbie question: How to do relative and absolute links?

Hello!

How do I make an absolute link?

How do I make a link relative to the current page (and not relative to the namespace, which the page is in) ?

And, most important: Where can I find documentation about this??

Cheers,
Volker

I can answer two of your questions......

You can also use the external page syntax to create absolute links to wiki pages:

  • [https://yourdomain.com/Page+Name] (assuming you're using SEFURL)

Similarly, you can use the external link syntax to link to trackers, file gallery objects, etc.

Wiki link syntax info is here: https://doc.tiki.org/Wiki-Syntax-Links

That's not a satisfactory solution... It makes the links dependant on the host on which the wiki is running.

Yes, I know that page. It doesn't say anything about namespaces, or relative and absolute links.

Thanks for your answer.

Maybe I've misunderstood your question... but an absolute has to be fully qualified with the protocol and domain. That's what makes it an absolute link — it includes all the necessary information.

With "absolute" I mean a link that starts at the outermost name space. What you describe, is called an "external" link in the documentation. I'm looking for how to make internal, absolute links.

You can make an absolute internal link for any page (SEFURL of page named "Absolute Vodka" in this case) just like this:

Copy to clipboard
[/my-tiki/absolute-vodka|Absolute Vodka]

Relative link example:

Copy to clipboard
[relative-page|Everything is relative]

Wiki link:

Copy to clipboard
((Relative Page|Everything is relative))

Hi.

I think I found a bug about absolute and relative links. I have a page "Tikitest:_:Links" and three links on it:

((Tikitest:_:Links:_:Abc))
((Tikitest:_:Links))
((Tikitest))

The first one gets interpreted as a relative link - relative to Tikitest, not to Tikitest:_:Links. This means it leads to Tikitest:_:Tikitest:_:Links:_:Abc. The second one gets interpreted as an absolute link and the "Tikitest" part gets rendered in an oval, with a grey background. The third one gets interpreted as a absolute link as well.

The first one was dangling, when I created the page.

So why is the first one interpreted differently from the second one?

Is this a bug? Should I try the latest Tiki version?

Bye,
Volker
