Happy 21st Anniversary, Tiki!
Today, we raise a virtual toast to celebrate the remarkable journey of Tiki Wiki CMS Groupware as it turns 21. What began as a modest wiki with extras in 2002 has blossomed into a versatile web application, shaping the landscape of intranets, websites, portals, knowledge bases, and more. Tiki has not just stood the test of time; it has evolved into a tech powerhouse.
As I, John, reflect on the past two years of contributing to Tiki as a software developer, I'm thrilled to be part of this vibrant community. Tiki stands as a shining example of what Open Source collaboration can achieve. It proudly holds its place among the top 2% of project teams tracked by Open Hub, underscoring the strength of its community.
My journey began in December 2021. From tweaking wiki pages to fixing different minor and major bugs, each step aimed at crafting a seamless and glitch-free platform. Looking ahead, the commitment to flawless user experience remains unwavering, making Tiki a haven for smooth digital experiences.
Studying the structure of Tiki's code became an essential part of my journey, and with the supportive community, I took on development-related tasks. Over time, I've honed the skills to navigate the code efficiently, reducing the time needed to contribute and enhance features. Tiki's vastness ensures there are always new discoveries, and the responsive community plays a pivotal role in addressing evolving needs.
What distinguishes Tiki from other Open Source projects is its self-contained nature. Tiki's core strengths lie in its free and Open Source nature, written in PHP, one of the most widely used web languages. Unlike many, Tiki houses all its functionality within its codebase, requiring no external plugins for optimal performance. This unique feature makes Tiki a standout in the world of Open Source software.
In terms of contributions, I've initiated over 70 merge requests, covering a spectrum of features, bug fixes, and documentation updates. This reflects the dynamic nature of Tiki's development, where each contribution contributes to the project's growth.
As we toast to Tiki's 21st anniversary, I express my gratitude to the community, contributors, and users who make this journey meaningful. Here's to a prosperous decade ahead for both Tiki and the individuals who make it thrive!
