Please help a beginner out

I'm trying to use Tiki-Wiki for a "just for fun" web-site but I'm not sure I'm understanding it correctly. I want to have this site visible to all with everyone able to add wiki entries, articles, blogs, forum postings, etc... I have some of it working reasonably well but other parts (like the wiki itself) I'm mystified by. Also I get occassional errors that I don't understand. Tiki-wiki is such a huge program that trying to figure it all out at once is proving quite difficult.

Anyway, here's the site: http://tinyurl.com/zussu

Hi Blowfly
It looks like you need to go to admin groups and set up permissions for anonymous user group.

You should be a little more specific about the help you require. There is heaps of documentation at http://doc.tikiwiki.org/tiki-index.php Also try the search feature here as there is heaps of useful info.

Thanks. I will continue going through the site looking for answers. I wasn't more specific because I guess nothing was working the way I wanted. 😡 but I'll get it sorted out.

Hey blowfly;

I agree with stella12 there is everything you could want to know here about TW. However, it does take some digging to find it.

To answer your question about how to get visitors to be able to do what you want I must give a warning. The reason unregistered folk can not do editing and the like is because this leaves your site open to vandalism. If you ask people to reg it tends to scare the nasty folk away a bit.

So I do not recommend what I am going to say here.

To set your site up so that anyone can make changes do this...

In the main menu open the admin drop down,

click on groups
click on the Anonymous link
or add this to your url to get there quick. tiki-assignpermission.php?group=Anonymous

This will show you the perms that are available to Anonymous users.

Below the list you will see a box that says assign, with the drop down of remove

beside that it says “all permissions in level???, and you get another drop box with a list of permission levels.

Select, assign “all permissions in level??? registered, and click update.

This will give Anonymous users all the perms of a regged user.

You can go through the new list created and remove any items that you think should not be allowed for Anonymous users. For example the chat

good luck, James

Thank you much for the pointers. You're right about the unreg/reg thing. I guess I'd like registered users to be able to actually change stuff while unreg just to be able to read stuff. Considering registration is free there isn't much stopping people.

I'm figuring it out. The one thing that I don't have working at all is the wiki itself. I'll spend some time on that, check the help site, and then come back with any specific questions.
