Validation email cannot be sent, but forgotten password can

I'm trying to set up a new Tiki site using v2.2. When users try to register they get the message:

TikiWiki v2.2 wrote:
The registration mail can't be sent. Contact the administrator

The Tiki Logs don't really show anything helpful, simply:

TikiLogs wrote:
mail error Sun 01 of March, 2009 21:32 MST Anonymous / Your Tiki information registration...

However, users are able to use the "I forgot my password" link and they do get sent an email. Why does one email process work but not the other? Does it have something to do with not using the same domain name for the email that the site is hosted on? e.g. site is hosted on xyz.com but email address is configured as from uvw.com.

First off, I was able to confirm that email validation works because another I have running Tiki, successfully sent the validation email and the whole processed worked like a charm.

I've been playing with this some more on the site that is giving me trouble and it seems that all email features are working except registration validation email.

I have received emails for:

  • Lost Password
  • Private Message above specified priority
  • New Forum posting
  • Wiki page changed watch

So does anyone know why the validation email doesn't work for this particular site?

The validation email is not being sent. Users are able to send email to each other using "Messages". When I use the "Admin Users" to "Send an email to the user in order to allow him to validate his account" it does not go out. New users who are validated by the admin do not receive their confirmation emails from the system.

Did you ever resolve this?

I guess you might want to check with your site hosting company and ask them to make sure the mail server is working properly from their end.

It's interesting that all other facets of registering with Tiki are working. It seems like it could be something in the code. Maybe you have a corrupt file. Every time I have thought that thus far, it has not been the Tiki files that are a problem, though.

As a last resort, you may want to consider backing up your database and reinstalling your Tiki site?

It would be superior to just reinstall (reload / overwrite ) the files relevant to mail registration, but I am not sure you'll be able to discern which those are.

My problem remains a bit of a mystery, too. We had to move the site into a developmental phase as a result of this issue and go with something else for a while as our main website.

http://tikiwiki.org/tiki-view_forum_thread.php?forumId=4&comments_parentId=31895&thread_sort_mode=commentDate_asc&was_queued=n" class="wiki wikinew text-danger tips">http://tikiwiki.org/tiki-view_forum_thread.php?forumId=4&comments_parentId=31895&thread_sort_mode=commentDate_asc&was_queued=n

After renaming the domain name to something developmental, the problem seems to have disappeared for now, but it's on the same server, so that really says nothing at all.

I did receive word from my hosting company that the mail server had appeared clogged at the time. There's no clog now. We have no explanation at this time.

Your problems seems different because you are receiving the email cannot be sent rejection notice. It should be a bit less of a mystery than my situation.

Can no one else offer help on this?

No solution so far but I haven't really tried to be honest, haven't had time.

Perhaps you're right and one of my files is corrupt/missing. I could give that a try.

The curse of the validation email strikes again. I've just installed 5.1 on GoDaddy.com today and all aspects of sending emails are working except the sending of the validation email.

I've searched the forums and I see others have had this problem too, and I also see that the issue basically poo-poo'd as a PEBKAC issue. Sorry, frustration is getting the better of me, I know the like of Gary and Rick are always helpful where possible.

Anyway, it would be really great if someone might at least give some suggestions as to what the problem might be. I've experienced it now with two different versions of Tiki and two different host providers (the original host was AFMU for what it's worth). I'm thinking it's a host issue but then surely no email would be able to be sent, why only the validation email? What's so special about the validation email?
