Read only ?

Hi!

I'm currently trying to have a user who can ONLY read all the wiki pages but NOT edit them!
Is that possible? I thought that assigning the permission tiki_p_view (only that one!) was going to be enough, but that's not the case.

Thank you
Gen

Hi

You would need to remove tiki_p_edit from the Registered group.

Create a new group "Editors" or whatever and put tiki_p_edit in there.

Anyone who wants edit access you have to add to Editors. otherwise users can only read.

Hope it helps

Yes it worked 😊

I gave my new group "ReadOnly" all the permissions of Registered, I deleted tiki_p_edit and added tiki_p_view 😊

Thanks everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Gen

I think if I understand you correctly, this is what I do at many sites.

Quick and easy

  • Create a "group" called Read only, (or what ever)
  • Include the group the "Anonymous" or "Registered" privileges,
  • Depending on you ver. of TW include a Group Homepage,
  • Add or remove any of the privileges that you do not want the Read only user to have access to,
  • Assign your user to the group "Read only",

Getting in to it

If you really want to have better organization of your site it would be an advantage to create the group with no per assigned privileges. As TW progresses you will find that the group privileges are given a lot more power. I find the whole privileges thing a bit confusing. However, if you dig into it you will find all kinds of ways that it may be used.

In other words,

  • Create a "group" called Read only, (or what ever)
  • DO NOT Include any groups privileges,
  • Depending on your ver. of TW include a Group Homepage,
  • Save your new group
  • Go to Assign permissions to group: Read only,
  • Create level (Now the fun part?),
  • Assign the different perms you want to this level,
  • Assign your user to the group "Read only",

TW permissions The future?

In using the TW 1.10 version I have found many treats in what the permissions do. well worth learning how they work. I think that it would be nice if they were a bit less complex but then you lose the features.

Boy you are fast Damian! Barely got Open Ofice open before you answered.

Hi,

Thanks for your post...but that is not what I wanted to know. Of course I did all this, what I want is which permission to give for read only...

I gave one permission, tiki_p_view, thinking it would work...but it didn't!

Thanks anyways
