Righ to Left (RTL) language Themes

United Kingdom

I am currently using theme fivealive and have just upgraded to Tiki12.6.

I have Arabic, Urdu, Farsi and Hebrew pages, alongside pages in 30+ other languages which are left to right (ltr) and the rtl pages look pretty awful mostly due to text overlaying module boundaries.

Should I be using another theme (recommendations welcome) or are there some settings I can change or any kind of fix?

Hi,

One of the themes, Greenvalley, has an rtl CSS file, but I'm not sure how it works, if it's automatic or not. Greenvalley also has its own look that may or may not be right for your site. I don't know if greenvalley-rtl.css could be adapted for other themes.

Support for rtl languages is improved in Tiki 14 and newer, as these use the Bootstrap CSS framework, and apparently this project - https://github.com/morteza/bootstrap-rtl - will add rtl support for any theme.

Thanks Gary,

I have just had a look at the site in greenvalley and the rtl pages present nicely there. It's a nice theme overall in fact but, as you suggest, not really appropriate for the site content.

I wouldn't back my skills as far as adapting a css to a theme in tiki, but I will have a look in case I surprise myself.

It sounds athough I should be in Tiki 14 but I didn't know that 12 wasn't the latest. I am missing something there obviously and will look at the tiki main site to see about upgrading.

Thanks again for the reply.

Just an update for anyone following:

I updated to 14.2 and the rtl pages in Bootstrap do indeed look a lot better.... but at some cost. The rest of the site has gone completely haywire with all of the menus, structures and modules broken. They are there, they just don't function completely anymore. Anyone else had a site meltdown upgrading from 12 to 14? :-J

Thanks Gezza,
that does look helpful. Only problem is I can't seem to edit the menu now - hit the edit option and the page just goes grey ...
I did at least clear the caches
