Table of contents

«FOSDEM is a free event that offers open source communities a place to meet, share ideas and collaborate.
It is renowned for being highly developer-oriented and brings together 5000+ geeks from all over the world.»
Jyhem has attended for 3 years in a row and confirms that it's huge, it's chaotic, it's fun.
When
In Brussels / 31 January & 1 February 2015
Where
FOSDEM will take place at the ULB Solbosch Campus, Brussels, Belgium, Europe, Earth.
https://fosdem.org/2015/practical/transportation/
What
It is still possible to apply for stands or lighning talks until November, 20th
Stands
That would be a great opportunity for the Tiki community to spread awareness about Tiki.
Since there are all these talks and conferences going on which we would like to attend also, I would say we need to be at least 5 of us before we decide to apply for a stand.
I'll be there anyway, even if we don't organise a stand 😊
From https://fosdem.org/2015/news/2014-09-19-call-for-participation-part-two/
What they offer
- one 180x80cm table, positioned in one of the buildings with developer rooms, for the entire duration of the conference. In some cases, a second table may be possible, if you have a good reason to need two.
- two chairs per table
- one power socket type C/E (if you require adapters or additional sockets, please bring them yourself)
- fast uplink shared wireless Internet access
Further practical considerations
- The offer for stands is open to open source projects and communities
- There is no cost or fee for the stands
- The stand should be occupied by at least two people for the duration of the conference.

- Stand description
We intend to display at least 3 posters. two are A3 format and one is a standalone foldable horizontal banner.
We will give out flyers (sure) and other stuff such as t-shirts (probably).
We will have laptops with auto-running Tiki presentations or videos.
We will also use these laptops for showing whatever interested people ask about. For this, we will rely on the Wifi internet.

- Why should FOSDEM accept this proposal?
Wikis are essential tools for online collaboration, open knowledge and free software. They are everywhere: from the mainstream Wikipedia to a myriad of public, academic and corporate knowledge bases and
personal sites. Yet they will not have their own track in 2014.
Tiki Wiki CMS Groupware has a unique philosophy to running an Open Source community: The Wiki Way of writing software.
To our knowledge, Tiki is the FOSS Web Application with the most built-in features and has been around for more than 10 years.
Lighting talks
See https://fosdem.org/2015/news/2014-09-19-call-for-participation-part-two/
Lighting talks are short — 15 minutes — talks on a wide variety of topics. Anyone who has something interesting to say about an open source topic can apply. So aplying to one is anyone's personal decision.
More ideas welcome ...

Transportation
See https://fosdem.org/2015/practical/transportation/
Accomodation
I usually rent room/rooms at:
Citadines Sainte-Catherine Brussels
51, QUAI AU BOIS A BRULER
BRUSSELS 1000
BELGIUM
I found them cheap (for Brussels), well situated and practical, with an included kitchen. About 150€ for 2 nights and 2 people.
Party
There is usually a FOSDEM-organized big Beer event on friday night before the event.
Saturday night is usually spent in center-town bars together with people's own, or friendly open-sources projects 😊
