My Tiki sites

The first site I used TikiWiki on was the now-defunct the Phoenix Developer Consortium web site (Wayback link). I also used Tiki for the Japanese site of Genesi SARL for a while; it had a custom theme and was bilingual.

Tiki 1.10 beta is running at my family web site. And zukakakina.com, my Tiki themes experimentation site, runs Tiki 1.10 beta modified to have a *litecss-based default theme, which is the planned future for 1.10.

I also started up themes.tikiwiki.org along with Marc, and this came about as a result of good responses to Zukakakina.com.

Since then, I've worked on quite a few Tiki themes and sites. One that stands out is http://support.mozilla.com, for which I "Tiki-fied" the designer's graphics and then worked with nkoth to impliment functionality desired by the mozilla support team. This was a real good learning experience for me in terms of file management and so on (thanks, Nelson) and it made me more aware of the need for Tiki to reflect good Web standards (thanks, Mozilla people).

Theme development

Subversion commits as tracked at Ohloh — this page shows the record of contributions to Tiki's development files in a neat way.

With the exception of the Twist theme, which was done by Gary Griffen, these themes are the ones I've done that can be downloaded for use at Tiki sites: New themes at themes.tw.o. Some are adaptations of themes from other CMS or blog software, and some are originals.

Recent themes and theme adaptations

These two pages show themes that are either done or in progress for Tiki 1.10 beta: "Type 1" Themes and "Type 2" Themes. Type 1 is the way I've designated for internal use the themes that use luci's *litecss layout method. Type 2 themes use one table for layout because of problems some browsers (i.e., IE7) have with columns due to not supporting the CSS display:table property.

In the past there was a lot of redundancy of files between my custom themes and the Tiki core files, but gradually this is being reduced so, happily, there are relatively few custom files in these new themes, and there will be even fewer in the future.

I like the idea of pushing the envelope for Tiki themes, and going for variety. As zukakakina.com and themes.tikiwiki.org continue to grow, I hope more people will share their own experiences with changing the look and functionality of Tiki sites.

Tiki Docs

I've done a few documentation pages but would like to get more active. I joined the Editorial Board and hope to help work on the docs project more, but feel like themes have to be my top priority.
